A study of Achilles' armor that attempts to shed some light on the changes made by Homer in the Achilles material that he inherited. Argues that Homer blends two different strains of the armor motif for poetic purposes, downplaying magical and supernatural elements because they would be unsuitable for the character he wishes to portray.
