Prije zore vi bijela dana -- 4 Before dawn and the white day -- C
Još do zore dva puna savata, 5 Even two full hours before dawn, C
Dok se svane vi sunce vograne 6 When day breaks and the sun rises
hI danica da pomoli lice. 7 And the morning star shows its face.
Kad je momak dobro vuranijo, 8 When the young man got himself up, C
vU vodžaku vatru naložijo 9 He kindled a fire in the hearth
vA vuz vatru dževzu pristavijo; 10 And on the fire he put his coffeepot; C

Svog dorata vod jasala jami, 23 He brought his horse out of the manger,
Vodi konja, do pod hajat sveza. 24 Led it out and tied it below the eave.
Čula svali, metnu timar gor i, 25 He threw off the blanket, pressed the curry-comb on top C
Stade vaga češ'ati zlatala. 26 He began to comb the golden one. C
vA dok dobra konja timarijo, 27 And after he groomed his fine steed, C
vU sundjer mu vodu pokupijo 28 He collected water in a sponge
vA djibretom dlaku votvorijo. 29 And spread his horse's coat with a goatskin pouch. C
Ćebe preže, bojno sedlo bači, 30 He hitched up the blanket and threw on the war saddle,
